This one-of-a-kind project involved the complete reconstruction of a beloved wooden play boat at Parents Nursery School in Davis. Years of exposure to weather and constant use had taken a toll on the original structure, making a full tear-down necessary.
Our team carefully documented and measured the existing boat, creating a detailed blueprint to preserve its original character while improving its durability and safety. Once the old structure was removed, we rebuilt the framework from the ground up using sturdy redwood 2x4s rather than traditional plywood construction. This approach provided a much stronger foundation capable of withstanding years of active play.
Because the boat would be used daily by young children, safety and longevity were top priorities throughout the project. We incorporated composite materials in key areas, including the top and bottom surfaces, to help resist moisture, prevent rot, and reduce future maintenance needs. Every aspect of the design was carefully considered to ensure the finished structure would be both durable and child-friendly.
The result is a custom-built play boat that honors the original design while providing a safer, stronger, and longer-lasting play environment for future generations of students.
