What began as a soft spot in the floor beneath a front window uncovered decades of hidden structural damage. For nearly 60 years, sprinklers had been watering the landscaping along the front of the home. Over time, that constant moisture penetrated the exterior wall, causing extensive dry rot that remained hidden until the homeowner noticed the flooring beginning to soften.

After a thorough inspection, we discovered the damage extended far beyond the flooring. To access and repair the affected area, we removed the carpet, padding, hardwood flooring, damaged wall framing, deteriorated insulation, exterior brick, and cedar shake siding. Due to the extent of the structural damage, we constructed a temporary interior support wall to safely stabilize the home while repairs were underway. Throughout the project, special care was taken to work around existing gas lines concealed within the wall.

Once all damaged materials had been removed, we rebuilt the structural framing and subfloor, installed new insulation and a moisture barrier to help protect against future water intrusion, and restored the exterior with rebuilt brickwork and new shake siding. Inside the home, new tongue-and-groove hardwood flooring was installed to seamlessly blend with the existing living space.

This extensive structural restoration took approximately two weeks to complete. By addressing not only the visible damage but also the underlying moisture issues, we restored the home’s structural integrity and helped protect it from future problems. The finished result provides the homeowners with a safe, solid, and long-lasting solution while preserving the beauty and character of their home.
